Audi R15 Plus crashes during testing at Sebring

. Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Here's some unfortunate news coming from Audi testing in Sebring. Yesterday, Audi 'factory' driver, Mike Rockenfeller lost control of the R15 Plus and crashed in Turn 17, sending the car backwards into the tire barrier. Considering Audi had only shipped one R15 Plus to the States for Sebring testing, we'd imagine this cuts their test session short.

Rumors started to spread last night that 'Rocky' (Rockenfeller's nickname) wrecked the R15 Plus but we hoped the wreck was minor or completely false. The story then broke today with photographic proof from French website AUTOhebdo (of course les French would be first to break such news) and validated the unfortunate turn of events.

UPDATE (3/24/10): A Fourtitude forum member has posted that the R15 Plus has been repaired and continued testing at Sebring today. Check out the update at Fourtitude.
