Report: VW considering replacing VR6 with Audi's 2.5-liter turbo 5-cylinder

Car and Driver is reporting that Volkswagen is currently considering replacements for the brand's iconic VR6 powerplant in their U.S. models. Now, before any of you die-hard VR6 fans reach for the comment box, one engine Volkswagen is currently considering is a detuned derivative of Audi's 2.5 TFSI (à la TT RS/RS3). VR-who? Of course, the decision has yet been made. However, if the people's car does choose Audi's new turbo-five, C/D reports it'll likely find a new home in the U.S.-spec Passat, Touareg and possibly more models—and be built in the USA.
