Video: Allan McNish's horrific Audi R18 TDI wreck at Le Mans

. Saturday, June 11, 2011

Just under an hour into today's 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans, Allan McNish suffered a truly horrific accident in his #3 Audi R18 TDI. Just past the pit-lane exit, McNish attempted to overtake teammate Timo Bernhard and a GTE-class Ferrari. As you'll see in the video, McNish came short of clearing the Ferrari, clipping the Audi's left rear. The contact sent McNish skidding through the gravel and into the tire-barrier at tremendous speed; shattering the #3 R18 TDI in arguably the worst Le Mans wreck we've ever seen.

As an unfortunate demonstration of the strength and safety features Audi employs in the R18 TDI, we're happy to report that Allan McNish was able to walk away from wreckage on his own strength and is fine. In addition to McNish, it is also reported that no photographers or spectators were injured.
