Report: Current generation Audi RS6 production ending

. Thursday, July 15, 2010

The current generation (or C6 bodied) Audi RS6 has truly been one of our favorite Audis of all-time. That said, we're set with mixed emotions having heard the mighty 571hp, twin-turbo V10-powered beast would be fazed out of production by the end this quarter. Of course the C6 RS6 will be missed, but anticipation for what's next keeps our breaths bated.

Although Audi has given no official comment on whether this intel is entirely factual, our friends at qarsi.de brought the story to our attention, citing a report by Germany's Focus Online. According to the report, current-gen RS6 production will cease by the end of the quarter, making room for A7 production in Neckarsulm. In addition to the Focus article, a look at Audi.de's configurator is conspicuously lacking an "RS6" option.

As for a C7 RS6, well, the jury's still out on that one. Some speculation points to a C7 RS6 introduction a year or two following the C7-bodied A6. While others say quattro GmbH will instead produce a RS7 to fill the void. Either way, a new fire breathing mid-sized RS should surely return - and we hope sooner rather than later.
